The Agafay Desert
Located just 35 km from Marrakech, the Agafay is sometimes called “the desert without sand” — a vast, moonlit plateau of exposed rock and parched earth. On clear days (most days), the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains provide one of Morocco’s most dramatic backdrops.
What to Expect
Safety briefing (20 minutes): Your instructor walks you through controls, safety procedures, and the route. No experience necessary.
The drive: You lead — your guide vehicle is ahead showing the route, but you’re in full control of your buggy. Rip across open desert, climb rocky embankments, ford dried riverbeds.
Berber tea stop: Halfway through, pause at a nomad tent for traditional mint tea and cookies while your guide shares the history of the Agafay.
Return: Drive back as the light changes — late afternoon is magical, with the Atlas glowing pink in the distance.
